The Trumbull Monroe Health District will be holding several flu clinics this fall for pneumonia and seasonal flu vaccinations. This year’s flu vaccinations target three flu strains, including H1N1, and anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting seasonal flu can get vaccinated. TMHD anticipates ample supply of seasonal flu vaccine and pneumonia vaccine, and encourages all residents to get vaccinated. TMHD has injectable vaccine for those 6 months and older who wish to be vaccinated. Also, TMHD clinics have Flumist available for those 2 years of age to 49 years of age. If you are not ambulatory and require accommodation, please contact the public health nurse for assistance.
The public has many options for where they get vaccinated for the flu, but taxpayers might be interested to know that every dollar that the Health District earns on flu shots directly reduces tax dollars that Trumbull and Monroe contribute to support Health District operations!

TMHD accepts Anthem and Anthem Medicare, and ConnectiCare and ConnectiCare Medicare. Individuals should check with their insurance companies regarding coverage, as insurance plans vary. All insurance cards must be brought to the clinic for billing purposes, as well as a driver’s license (if you have one). Participants are responsible for the insurance co-pay or deductible, at the time of vaccination. Anthem and Medicare do not cover the cost of Flumist. “Prevention is the best means to help stop the spread of seasonal flu,” said Patrice Sulik, TMHD Director of Health. “TMHD is committed to vaccinating our residents, particularly those who are at high risk of complications from influenza.”
It is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) that everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated each year.
TMHD will provide Fluzone (injectable vaccination) manufactured by Sanofi. This vaccine contains the A/California (H1N1) like virus, A/Perth (H3N2) like virus, and B/Brisbane like virus, which are thought to most likely occur this winter. Those 6 months of age and older can receive the injectable vaccination. Also available is Flumist (nasal spray) manufactured by Medimmune. It is approved for those 2 years of age through 49 years of age that do not have underlying health conditions.
Also available at the flu clinics are pneumonia vaccinations. The pneumonia vaccine is recommended for:
- All adults 65 years of age and older
- Anyone 2 through 64 years of age who is a smoker or has asthma or has a condition that lowers the body’s resistance to infection.
The cost for the pneumonia vaccine is $60.00. Cash or checks are accepted. Please verify health insurance coverage prior to attending the clinic. All co-pays and deductibles must be paid by the participant.
