1/15/2018 - Statement from First Selectman Tesoro on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Today we remember the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. on what would have been his 89th birthday. As the most influential voice of the civil rights movement, King is most remembered for his march on Washington in 1963, where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words and actions are intertwined with American culture today. Equality. Peace. Acceptance. Understanding. These underlying tenets of his movement are part of the foundation of our modern society.
I am asking the people of Trumbull to join me today in a moment of reflection of Dr. King’s life. Perhaps volunteer your time today toward a cause in which you deeply believe, or take a moment to learn more about American history and the actions that moved the civil rights movement forward. However you choose to spend this day, together we honor a great man, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
