Door to door solicitation has begun again in Trumbull after being put on hold for several months due to COVID-19. Door to door solicitors who work in Trumbull are required to follow the procedures set forth in the town’s Transient Merchants Ordinance, which include obtaining a license from the Trumbull Chief of Police and undergoing a criminal background check. Each solicitor must wear a badge, furnished by the Trumbull Chief of Police, in a highly visible place on their person while going door to door. Additionally, solicitors must now follow COVID-19 safety protocols, which include wearing a mask.
Residents who do not wish to have solicitors come to their door may post a “No Solicitation” sign on their property, and solicitors must obey those signs. Residents are encouraged to call the non-emergency number for the Trumbull Police Department, 203-261-3665, if they think a solicitor is in violation of the ordinance or has not heeded a “No Solicitation” sign.
