[ARCHIVED] 05/21/2020 COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 (JPG)

Good Evening,

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.

As of today we have 503 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull. 96 of our Trumbull residents have passed away. 78 of those who died resided in our extended care facilities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our families who are suffering due to this crisis.

Indian Ledge Park, the Community Gardens at Abraham Nichols Park, and the tennis courts at Nothnagle Memorial Field will open next week. The date for these openings will be announced early next week.

The following town spaces are currently open to the public: Twin Brooks Park, Old Mine Park, Great Oak Park, Beach Memorial Park, Tashua Knolls Golf Course, Tashua Knolls Tennis Courts, Pequonnock River Trail.

Vehicles only with a valid Trumbull 2019 or 2020 parking sticker will be allowed entrance into our parks. If you need a parking sticker please go to the Parks & Recreation page on the Town website for further information.

Yesterday, May 20th Phase I of the Governor’s reopening plan began. This phase incudes the reopening of many of our businesses. The majority of our Trumbull restaurants are open and continue to offer take out and several have already taken advantage of our expansion of outdoor dining. The Westfield Trumbull Mall reopened yesterday. Approximately 1/3rd of the retailers opened in this first phase. Others will reopen over the coming weeks as they staff up and implement protective measures. The Mall’s business hours are 11-7 Monday through Saturday and Sunday, Noon-6.

Governor Lamont issued some early direction yesterday for the second phase of the reopening. We look forward to sharing more details as they become available. Please shop and dine local to support our Trumbull businesses.  For business resources and information visit our COVID-19 Business Recovery Resource Page on the town website. It is updated daily.

Masks are required in all public places except in restaurants while dining. Please also follow social distancing guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation in following all restrictions in place to protect your safety and those around you.

The Town Council will vote on the Town budget tonight at 7:30 PM. Please visit the town website for instructions on how to join this virtual meeting. Join the meeting online: https://zoom.us/j/92757505502?pwd=aHRrd1Ira3R6blBKZVhEMGM0WlJoQT0

Guidance received yesterday from the State of CT Department of Public Health recommends all public swimming places remain closed at this time. I will continue to provide updates as they become available for this and other ever changing situations.

Monday, May 25, 2020 is Memorial Day. A member of our community, Vin Lipinsky, suggested to me how Trumbull could come together while maintaining social distancing and celebrate this most important day. On behalf of the Town and Mr. Lipinsky, I’m asking all Trumbull residents to join together by stepping out onto your porch, patio, yard, or driveway at noon on Monday, May 25, 2020 to applaud, ring bells, blow horns, shout and cheer for a full 60 seconds. We can honor all those who made the supreme sacrifice for us and also celebrate the Trumbull Police Department, Trumbull EMS, Trumbull Fire Departments, medical personnel, and all the essential employees that have kept us safe during these difficult times.

Thank you for your continued patience and your cooperation.

Stay safe, stay well, and stay home as much as possible.

Thanks for listening.
