[ARCHIVED] Proclamations: National School Nurse Day, Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurses Week

 Proclamations

WHEREAS, children today face more complex and serious health problems requiring care in school; and 

WHEREAS, school nurses have joined with families and communities for more than 100 years in recognizing that health, safety and wellness are crucial to the development and educational success of students; and

WHEREAS, school nurses act as a liaison between the school community, parents, and health care providers on behalf of children’s health by promoting wellness and improving health outcomes for our nation’s children; and

WHEREAS, school nurses understand the link between health and learning and are in a position to make a positive difference for children every day; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Trumbull recognizes school nurses throughout our community for the compassionate and dedicated service that they provide to our students, families and schools; and

WHEREAS, School Nurse Day recognizes the important role school nurses play in our schools and the compassionate care they provide to students and families; and

WHEREAS, we take this moment to embrace the essence of this year’s theme, “School Nurses: Supporting Students in Times of Crisis.”

NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim May 6, 2020 as National School Nurse Day.

WHEREAS, teachers change the lives of millions of children every day. They work to open students’ minds to ideas, knowledge and dreams; and

WHEREAS, teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and 

WHEREAS, with an early end to the physical school year, our teachers have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons, all to ensure that every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, in these challenging times the Town of Trumbull recognizes and appreciates how our town’s educators play such a pivotal role in our children’s lives, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long-term success;

NOW, THEREFORE IVicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim May 4-8, 2020 as Teacher Appreciation Week.

WHEREAS, Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Florence Nightingale, an English nurse, became known as the founder of professional nursing, especially due to her pioneering work during the Crimean War; and

WHEREAS, National Nurses Week is a time to raise awareness of the important role nurses play in society. Some of life’s biggest moments are spent with a nurse, including at the beginning of life when we are born; and

WHEREAS, we take this moment to embrace the essence of this year’s theme, “A Voice to Lead.” Let’s join all residents, patients, caregivers, nurses, volunteers and visitors in celebrating this special week and honoring both our vulnerable citizens who receive care and the dedicated ones giving care.

NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2020 as NATIONAL NURSES WEEK.
