[ARCHIVED] 03/26/20: Trumbull Health Department Update Regarding COVID-19 Testing

Coronavirus Info

As availability of testing increases throughout Connecticut, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Trumbull will also increase.  At this time, testing is limited to the following:

1) Hospitalized patients with fever > 100.4°F and lower respiratory illness

2) Healthcare workers employed in a hospital setting with fever > 100.4°F and lower respiratory illness

3) Residents of congregate settings with fever > 100.4°F and lower respiratory illness

Please visit this link for more information on priorities for testing patients with suspected COVID-19 infection.

These testing protocols are being followed to ensure testing is available to those who need it most.  It also ensures that hospitals and medical providers do not run out of personal protective equipment and limit their exposure.

It is also expected that due to testing limitations several cases of COVID-19 will go unreported.  As the acceleration phase of this pandemic intensifies, we will need to shift our focus on hospitalization and death counts, rather than total number of cases.  It is important to remember that case numbers should not limit the importance of social distancing.

The Town of Trumbull will continue to post the number of positive cases on the town page and will do so on a weekly basis.
