Data Center Updates

The following are statements from First Selectman Vicki Tesoro regarding Trumbull's Data Center.

July 10, 2026

I want to thank the residents who have reached out with questions and concerns regarding the data center property at 80 Merritt Boulevard. This property has operated as a data center in Trumbull since the 1960s, and I understand the significant public interest surrounding any potential changes to its operations or future use.

I want the community to know that this matter is being taken seriously. I am actively meeting with the property owners, gathering information, and closely monitoring developments. My administration is committed to ensuring that residents are kept informed, that community concerns are heard, and that any potential impacts on Trumbull are carefully evaluated.

To provide the public with clear and accurate information, we are preparing a comprehensive document that will address many of the questions that have been raised. It will include information about the property's current operations, any proposed upgrades, the applicable review process, and what those changes could mean for our community. In addition, I intend to invite the data center’s new ownership team to present information about the project directly to residents.

Protecting the interests of the Trumbull community will remain my highest priority throughout this process. Residents deserve accurate information. For that reason, it would be premature to hold a public meeting before we have gathered the necessary information and can provide clear, accurate answers with input from the appropriate experts. Our goal is to ensure that when we convene the community, the discussion is productive, informative, and based on verified facts. As soon as that work is complete, we will announce a date for the public meeting.

I will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. I appreciate your patience and your continued interest as we work through this process together.

July 29, 2026

I have met with the consultant representing the owner of the Trumbull data center. I will continue those discussions to ensure the community receives complete and accurate information about this project at the former Digital Realty Data Center site, 80 Merritt Boulevard, built in the 1960s. I will be meeting with the owners and other parties directly involved in the project in the near future.

As more information becomes available, I will share it with the public through the town website and other communication channels.

Introducing The Parking Buddy

The Trumbull Police Department is excited to announce their collaboration with Hartford Healthcare St. Vincent's Medical Center to introduce The Parking Buddy!

The Parking Buddy is a simple magnet placed on a designated spot on your vehicle. Every time children get in or out of the car, they place their hand on the magnet and keep it there until an adult says it's safe to move. This easy habit helps reduce the risk of children running through parking lots and encourages safe, consistent behavior around vehicles.

Small actions can make a big difference when it comes to preventing accidents. Together, we're creating safer parking lots and helping families build lifelong safety habits.

Thank you to Hartford Healthcare St. Vincent's Medical Center for partnering with the Trumbull Police Department to make child safety a priority!

Come get your FREE magnet at National Night Out at Indian Ledge Park on Tuesday, August 4 from 4-8pm!

Recycling News

Food Waste and Composting

In 2025, Trumbull residents generated a daily average of 2.9 pounds of trash per person.  Great work, Trumbull! This is lower than the state daily average of 3.3-3.4 pounds of trash per person, but is a 13% annual increase. Waste disposal is a cost to taxpayers and an environmental detriment. Utilizing additional, free recycling programs in town reduces waste going to landfills.   Additional recycling options include electronics, Beyond the Bin collections, textiles, glass, scrap metal, and composting.

Composting your food waste and yard trimmings reduces your volume of trash being sent to the landfill which keeps our air cleaner and reduces trash disposal fees. In fact, about 25% of your trash is food waste and can be composted. Backyard composting is a form of recycling by breaking down organic materials and turning them back into nutrient-rich soil. Backyard composting can be a fun and educational activity for the entire family to start this summer!

Composting Q&A:

Q: Do I need a compost bin and are they expensive?

A: Many people choose to purchase a bin to be used for composting, but it is not required. You can also put your items in an open pile which keeps costs to a minimum.

Q: Can I compost any leftover food?

A: Not all food can be composted. Accepted items include fruit and vegetable scraps/peels/rinds, eggshells, and coffee grinds but meats and bones, oils, and fats are not accepted.

Q: What if I don’t have access to set up onsite composting?

A: Check the town’s website for curbside composting pick up in your area.

For more information on composting visit: www.trumbull-ct.gov/1228/Composting or email: recyclingcoordinator@trumbull-ct.gov
