Trumbull police arrested two (2) local people after a handgun with an obliterated serial number and various drugs were recovered after police were called to investigate an occupied vehicle which had been parked at the Marriott at 180 Hawley Lane.
On Sunday, November 19, 2023, at around 5 a.m., a Trumbull officer located the vehicle, with its engine running, in the Marriott parking lot and observed a firearm near the front seat passenger while a man was asleep in the back seat. Valerie Fleurimont, age 29, of Madison Avenue, Trumbull, and Shaun Reed, age 37, of Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport were each arrested and charged for their involvement in this investigation.
As the responding officer approached the vehicle, they observed two (2) individuals inside of the vehicle. Fleurimont was sitting in the front passenger seat, while Reed was laying down in the back seat. As the officer spoke with Fleurimont she stated that the driver of the vehicle was coming right back, that she did not know anyone in the vehicle, and that she was not from the area. As the officer continued to speak with Fleurimont, she ignored officer’s questions, and she began to text on her phone. While attempting to speak with Fleurimont, the officer noticed a silver handgun near her. Fleurimont was then asked to step out of the car, but she refused. She continued do disobey officer’s commands, but she eventually exited the vehicle on her own and was placed under arrest. Fleurimont was also found to be in possession of one (1) ecstasy pill.
Reed was also asked to step out the car in which he complied. Officers then located a small plastic bag in Reed’s possession which contained crack cocaine, several wax folds consistent with heroin, and over $700 in cash. Reed told officers that someone else must have driven his vehicle because he was intoxicated therefore, he does not remember. Reed also denied any knowledge of the firearm.
Officers located the Smith & Wesson handgun, with the serial number scratched off, loaded with six (6) bullets with one (1) round chambered, and a baseball bat that was within reach of both occupants. Clonazepam and oxycontin pills were also located in the back passenger area near Reed.
Reed is a convicted felon and is ineligible to possess a firearm and Fleurimont does not have a permit to carry pistols.
Fleurimont was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Illegal Possession of Weapons in a Motor Vehicle (2 counts), Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Illegal Alteration of Firearm, and Interfering with an Officer. She was held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on November 28, 2023.
Reed was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (3 counts), Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Illegal Possession of Weapons in a Motor Vehicle (2 counts), Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, and Illegal Alteration of Firearm. He was held on a $100,000 bond and is also scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on November 28, 2023.
