2022-09-07: Thefts from Vehicles in Trumbull Lead to Several Arrests and Loaded Gun

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022 Trumbull Police arrested three (3) Meriden residents after they were discovered breaking into vehicles in the parking lot at the Ten Trumbull Apartments. David Mitchell, age 18, of Sagmore Road, a seventeen (17) year old juvenile male, and a sixteen (16) year old juvenile male, all residents of Meriden, Connecticut were taken into custody nearby.

At about 3:00 a.m., the Trumbull Police were called to 100 Oakview Drive to investigate a report of three (3) people that were dressed in black and entering vehicles in the parking lot. Arriving officers located Mitchell and the two (2) teens matching the descriptions and standing in the roadway next to a BMW nearby. As officers spoke with the individuals, they all had bulges in their pockets and provided false information to police. Officers observed the interior of the BMW had items thrown around inside and the glove box was left open. Officers then located various amounts of jewelry, key fobs, cell phones, and loose change in their pockets.

Police investigation revealed that the individuals were all from Meriden, and that the sixteen (16) year old drove them to the area in his father’s Acura with the intent to break into vehicles. The sixteen (16) year old had an electronic cigarette and the key fob to his father’s Acura in his possession, as the vehicle was located nearby. Inside of the Acura, officers recovered various items to include marijuana, a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun with no identifying numbers, affixed with a laser sight, and a seventeen (17) round capacity magazine.

The sixteen (16) year old was issued a Juvenile Summons and charged with Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Large Capacity Magazine, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Interfering with an Officer, Larceny 6th degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th degree, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of an Electronic Cigarette. This juvenile was released to the custody of his father on a Promise to Appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on September 14, 2022.

The seventeen (17) year old was issued a Juvenile Summons and charged with Interfering with an Officer, Larceny 6th degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th degree. This juvenile was released to the custody of his mother on a Promise to Appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on September 14, 2022.

Mitchell was charged with Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Interfering with an Officer, Larceny 6th degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6th degree, and was held on a $10,000 bond. Mitchell is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on September 15, 2022.
