Proclamations: October 2021 is Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness Month

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the month of October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness month; and, WHEREAS, despite considerable progress being made in the fight against breast cancer, it is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in our country; and, WHEREAS, having affordable access to screenings and early detection for women and men is an essential component in the fight against breast cancer; and, WHEREAS, many of us know someone or have family members who have or have had breast cancer; and, WHEREAS, during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Town of Trumbull stands with anyone ·who has experienced breast cancer.  We recognize all who have joined their loved ones in fighting this battle, including the advocates, researchers, and healthcare providers whose care and hard work gives hope to those living with breast cancer.

NOW, THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim the month of October 2021, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Town ofTrum~1:1l~ to be affixed on the 12th day of October in the year 2021.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, in just one day, across the United States and its territories, nearly 75,000 victims of domestic violence sought services from domestic violence services and shelters; and, WHEREAS, many programs lacked the finances to provide housing, transportation, childcare, and legal representation for those in need; and, WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide-ranging, directly affecting individuals and society as a whole, here in this community, throughout the United States, and worldwide; and, WHEREAS, the need for safe housing continues to be rated as survivors most urgent need; and, WHEREAS, the Town of Trumbull joins with others across the state of Connecticut in supporting victims of domestic violence, as well as local programs, state coalitions, national organizations, and other agencies nationwide who are committed to increasing public awareness of domestic violence and sending a clear message to abusers that domestic violence is not tolerated in Trumbull; and, WHEREAS, domestic violence can be prevented but requires the collective voices of individuals, families, institutions, and systems who add valuable components to transforming our communities; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut, do hereby proclaim the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
