2021-04-22 COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 (JPG)

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update:
All individuals in Connecticut 16 years of age and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Trumbull Health Department (THD) is only administering the Moderna vaccine to those 18 years and older. You must schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine.

If you are 16 or 17 years old, you will need to schedule an appointment for the Pfizer vaccine. This is the only vaccine that has been approved for this age group at this time. If you are in need of an appointment, contact 2-1-1 for a listing of available clinics or call 877-918-2224.

Please visit the Town Website for more information about how to schedule a vaccine appointment.

As of April 14th, 20,792 of our residents have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. That represents almost 70% of those eligible in Trumbull to be vaccinated.

Free COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing is still being offered by Griffin Hospital, at Unity Park, on Unity Road. Please note the testing date has been changed to Monday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM.
No appointment is necessary, results in 24-48 hours. Please bring a valid ID.
Trumbull EMS is offering a drive through COVID-19 Testing Clinic at Middlebrook School Parking Lot, 220 Middlebrooks Avenue, Trumbull, by appointment only on Saturday, 4/24 from 9 AM to 4 PM. You must register prior to 5pm on 4/23.

April 24, 2021: Take Back Drugs Day at Trumbull EMS Headquarters

2021 National TAKE BACK DRUGS DAY
Trumbull EMS is proud to partner with Trumbull Police Department and host their 2021 National Take Back Drugs Day. Community members can come to the Trumbull EMS Headquarters, which is an official "Safe Zone, Drop off Point", and drop off unused or expired medications to our Trumbull Police Officers and Trumbull EMS crews to safely dispose of. We are also collecting E-Cigarette & Vaping Devices.
The event will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00am until 2:00pm at Trumbull EMS HQ, 250 Middlebrook Ave.

Governor Lamont announced on Monday that over the coming weeks he plans to further ease restrictions on certain sectors.
Beginning on May 1, 2021:
  • Bars that do not serve food can open for service on an outdoor-only basis. These establishments will still be prohibited from serving only alcohol indoors.
  • The 8-person per table limit will be lifted for outdoors only. This limit will remain in effect for indoor service.
  • The curfew for restaurants, entertainment venues, recreation venues, and theaters will be moved to midnight.
Beginning on May 19, 2021:
  • Contingent upon sufficiently low rates of infections and increasing vaccination rates, all remaining business restrictions will be lifted. Social distancing rules will be eased. Most mandates will end replaced by recommendations. The Department of Public Health will issue recommendations for indoor and other large outdoor events, such as concerts. Masking more than likely will continue indoors for some including schools. More guidance will be issued soon on mask requirements.
The Fairchild-Nichols Memorial Branch will reopen for browsing on May 3rd. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM. Patrons will be able to place holds for that location to be picked up during open hours.
The main branch of the Trumbull Library will expand hours starting May 3rd. The new operating hours will be Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Saturday hours will stay as 1 PM – 5 PM.
While the library will continue to offer the curbside pickup service, the service will switch to “by request” meaning that all holds placed will revert back to in-person pick up for when the library is open to the public unless the patron requests to use curbside pickup. Patrons who want to continue to use the curbside pickup service are asked to contact the library by emailing referencelibrarian@trumbull-ct.gov or by calling 203-452-5197. Curbside pickup is only available at the main branch of the Trumbull Library.

I am happy to announce that Trumbull’s Memorial Day Parade is returning and will be held this year at 10 AM on Monday, May 31st on Main Street. The day begins at 8 AM with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial on White Plains Road, then a ceremony at Town Hall at 9 AM honoring our Grand Marshal. If you have a scout troop, a sports team, or any kind of group that would like to march, please contact Kathy McGannon in the First Selectman’s Office at 203 452-5005 for information.
We are also excited to announce that Trumbull Day will also be returning. This year festivities will be held July 2nd and 3rd, with a rain date of July 4th. Fireworks will be July 3rd with a Fireworks rain date of July 10th. Come out and enjoy the food, the rides, and the entertainment!

Please visit the Town Website for more information that will be posted soon about both events!
I want to take this opportunity to thank our residents for your continued patience and cooperation and for supporting our local businesses during these difficult times. With more changes coming you will be able to visit and enjoy all of our local establishments even more.

Stay safe and stay well.

Thanks for listening.

In an effort to ensure Connecticut continues taking the most equitable and efficient approach to quickly administering the COVID-19 vaccine to as many people as possible, Governor Ned Lamont has announced that the state is continuing to expand access on an age-based schedule.

The State of CT is currently vaccinating healthcare personnel, medical responders and staff, residents and staff of select congregate settings, pre-k through 12 school staff and teachers, professional childcare providers, and, as of April 1, 2021, individuals 16 and older.

Currently, Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for children 16 and over.  The Moderna vaccine is only approved for individuals 18 years of age and older. Anyone who is age 16 or 17 must make an appointment with a provider who is administering Pfizer.

Key Provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act
Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act in March. Besides relief to individuals and businesses, this relief package includes funding for states, cities, other local governments, and also emergency relief funding for schools. The Town of Trumbull and the Trumbull schools will receive emergency funding under this plan. The exact amount of these allocations is not yet known and there still remains questions as to how the Treasury Department will allow these funds to be used. Once we know the information we will share it with you. https://himes.house.gov/coronavirus

Phase 2.1
The following rules apply to all Connecticut businesses and organizations and are effective March 19, 2021. Please keep in mind that it is the cumulative effects gained from social distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing that will continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Businesses should take these rules as the minimum baseline of precautions needed to protect public health in Connecticut and refer to the recommended guidance by sector listed at the bottom of this page for best practices. Individual establishments should also take additional measures as recommended by industry experts or by common sense applied to their particular situation.
