This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.
As of today we have 311 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull. 47 of our Trumbull residents have passed away. Like some other communities the majority of our deaths have occurred in facilities caring for our most vulnerable population.
We continue to share our sympathies with all families that are suffering. Please also keep in your thoughts and prayers our police, EMS, fire, health professionals, and all our essential employees who continue to make daily sacrifices to keep us safe.
We did receive some positive information that COVID-19 hospitalization rates in our area declined slightly last week after a month of increases. Also some of the spikes of Trumbull positive cases last week were due to State data reporting issues rather than an actual spike in our numbers.
As I said in our Town Hall meeting on Thursday, we are working on plans to reopen a few of our Town spaces in the near future. These include Twin Brooks Park and Old Mine Park, first, and then the Tashua Knolls Golf Course. These spaces will be reopened with strictly enforced restrictions and guidelines. The final decision to reopen any Town areas will be made in conjunction with our Health Director, and will be based on actual data and the health and safety of our community, just as every decision has been made thus far. More details on these openings will be available next week. Thank you for your patience and your cooperation.
I must caution everyone that the reopening of a few of our Town spaces does not mean that other guidelines and orders of the governor are no longer in force. In fact quite the opposite, we continue to emphasize the importance of following social distancing guidelines and to stay home as much as possible to keep your family and others safe. This is the only known way to reduce the transmission of this virus.
All other restrictions and closures will continue until you are notified otherwise, including but not limited to the following:
- You must wear a face mask or covering in public places where social distancing is not possible.
- All social and recreational gatherings of 5 or more people are prohibited and,
- The governor’s order stay safe, stay home is still active.
