Teen Poetry Contest 2021

April is national poetry month. It was founded in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to remind the public of the importance of poetry and the integral role of poets in sustaining our culture.

This year, the Trumbull Library System would like to offer teens a chance to celebrate this occasion with a poetry contest.

The rules are simple:

  • The contest runs from March 1st – April 1st; submissions must be sent by end of day April 1st
  • The contest is for teens ages 13 – 18
  • The poems must be in the form of a Collage Poem
  • Submissions are to be sent to Ms. Chelsie at clabrecque@trumbull-ct.gov – you may scan or take a photo of your completed poem to send
  • Submitted poems will be displayed on our social media, but if you would like your name excluded from the post please say so and we will remove it beforehand

The winner will be announced on April 5th

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Barnes & Noble as well as a copy of Ibi Zoboi’s book-in-verse Punching the Air

A limited supply of magazine cut-outs/words will be available for teens to take in the library foyer starting March 1stThey will be in a basket marked as such.
